Maybe it was my thirteenth cigarette when suddenly Kashif lit it with force. “She’s here…” Despite my expected anticipation, I jerked as if someone had startled me. Down the far side of the road, the same Chevrolet Rait continued to race.
In the pause before they reached the steps of our shrine, both mother and daughter had climbed up. Kashif intentionally parked his Jeep Chevrolet very close, blocking the way. The chauffeur of the car was still busy cleaning it, just as before. When I got off the Jeep, and my eyes met the driver’s, a glimmer of recognition appeared in his eyes. I quickly greeted and said, “Hey, it seems you also come here every Thursday, like our Begum Sahiba.” “No… it’s actually our second Thursday here.”
In fact, my friend had a strong desire to visit this shrine. So, I brought him here,” Kashif understood my signal and started engaging in a conversation with the driver. The driver, however, showed clear signs of fear, probably because today we had disembarked from an extremely valuable car.
Therefore, an unmistakable trace of anxiety was evident in his demeanor. Leaving Kashif to gather information from the driver, I climbed the steps and entered the courtyard of the shrine. I couldn’t find Abdullah anywhere. I frantically searched here and there in pursuit of the direction of the moon’s face. Finally, both the mother and daughter appeared to me. In front of the central building of the shrine, they were sitting near the lattice of stones, the same place where I had seen the girl for the first time after all this time.
