“This wasn’t the truth; it was a catastrophe that had shattered Rohab, and she, too, had broken down. It seemed as if even if she took a breath, she would die right there. She sat there, staring at all the pictures, finally understanding the madness of her love for paradise and why they loved her so much. Sometimes, she would get distressed, wondering why they loved her so much, but now all the pieces were falling into place.
“Rohi, Rohi, where are you, my friend? I’m so hungry…”
Haidar was calling out to her from outside, but upon seeing her sitting on the ground, crying like this, he couldn’t find the words to say. He quickly put down the food he had brought, approached her, and gently held her face in both his hands.
“What happened, my love? Why are you crying so much? Don’t you know that your tears are precious? Why cry so much that it breaks my heart?”
As he wiped her tears with his palms, he asked, “Is there nothing you want to say?” In his tone, there was love, longing, madness, and above all, the concern that was clearly visible. Rohab remained silent, pressed against his chest, crying even harder. This left Haidar even more distressed, and he kissed her forehead.
“You’re troubling me, Rohu. Tell me what’s wrong.”
With helplessness in his voice, he continued to soothe her back. Rohab handed him a letter she had been clutching in her hand. Haidar looked at it with questioning eyes, then opened it and began to read. As he read on, he could see Rohab’s pain, even though he already knew everything. However, reading it again was still excruciatingly painful.”
